25/02/2017 - SFA RT Spring Criterium
Location :Cyclopark Gravesend
The opening event to the LVRC caiendar produced some good hard racing around the circuit.
The race started in dry but overcast conditions with a SW cross wind, three age group categories started with time gaps between AB-CD-EFGH and after one lap Mike Piper(B) of Abellio-SFA was motoring passed the judges out on his own having left the ABs strung out chasing. Piper won with half a lap advantage with Andy Yeoman(A) soloing to 2nd.
In the CD race the wind was causing problems and a few splits were occurring Dominic Lowden(D) broke away from a chasing group of five riders but couldn’t catch him at the finish.
In the EFGH race Phil Bull(E) showed his winter training was paying off and broke away early from a splintering chasing group to hold for the win with Ralph Keeler(E) just snatching the bunch sprint.
In all 55 riders over the 3 races started, which from an organisers point of view is a little disappointing.Despite the conditions, racing was to the usual high standard we come to expect.
SFA road team look forward to welcoming more LVRC riders next Saturday 4th March 2017.
